I am looking to buy some DVD RWs. How do I know which to buy 4x or 8x? I can't find any info in my recorder manual.
thanks.

It would be helpful if you posted the dvd recorder or dvd burner you're using.
I have two, a polaroid 2100G and the DRA-1601A 160GB.
Disks are cheap enough now for 'trial and error'
Good quality 4x(2x compatable) would probably be the safe option.
I had a recorder not so long ago that (despite what it said on the box) would only accept certain brands of 2x media and even these failed after a while.
Your recorders may not work with 4x or 8x discs, FYI.

I agree with lordsmurf. Generally speaking, it's best to get 2x DVD-RWs (Version 1.1, I believe) for standalone recorders. Most don't support faster (Version 1.2, I think) DVD-RWs.
