I am an intermediate user. I have a Panasonic DV camcorder from 10 years ago. Have made a few home videos with various software. And am a software engineer. I want to upgrade, and main purpose for using a camcorder is home videos. I will make a few videos here and there, but mainly want to just burn DVDs and play on HDTV to watch with family now and 20 years from now. I want good quality, and widescreen. I have ordered a Canon HF200 but can cancel if I want to today. I have read good and bad. Mainly, seems difficult to generate a god quality MPEG-2 DVD from this camcorder ACVHD format. I can buy a BluePay player and burner. If I do that, will my life be easy and I can make and watch blue ray DVDs very easily? I hear the editing is difficult, I have Intel i7 2.67Ghz and 8GB memory. Any advice please? I can easily cancel and get an SD camcorder if that makes more sense for my home video needs.

    Thanks for any thoughts.
Main question, will it be relatively easy for me to create standard DVD and BlueRay DVD backups of my video to play on an HDTV, and periodic video editing?

Good thing you have a really fast computer, you'll need it. Very nice camcorder. You'll get some great footage if you spend some time learning to use it. Look at Vegas Movie Studio Platinum for a good editor with DVD and Blu Ray authoring capabilities.

About a Blu Ray burner - Alternatively, I bought a WD TV Live Media Player and it works great. You can watch your footage in full 1080p without having to first burn to BluRay. $120 plus the cost of a HDMI cable. http://www.wdtvlive.com/products/wdtv_live#highlights

If you really want to make it easy for editing, buy a copy of NeoScene to convert your AVCHD files to easy to edit Cineform AVIs.

Get yourself a Hague MMC steadicam type stabilizer or a Steadytracker so your footage doesn't look jittery when you walk with your camcorder.
