I've got a Samsung PAVV 32 inch TV and I've just tried to hook my laptop up to it and run into some issues.

My video card is a geforce 7950GTX GO. I've hooked it up with a blue VGA cable. One thing I've noticed is that its only giving me 4:3 resolution choices and not widescreen choices, It needs 1360x768@60hz

I've tried both clone and dual mode.

I've also tried to hunt for some drivers for my TV to let it give me other resolution options, but I can't seem to find any.

Do I need to go and get a DVI to HDMI cable or something in order to make this work? Anyone know if there is some way I can get wide screen resolutions?

I've done some googling..and turning up little. I have found 2 year old posts on some forums of people with 6xxx series gforce cards claiming to be able to set their vga ports to this resolution. I've tried power strip it doesn't seem to help.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Is the full model number LN32M51BD?

You may need to update the GeForce driver to get more vga resolution choices.

Page 114 of your manual shows TV supported VGA (Vesa) resolutions and 1360x768 is the maximum.

The HDMI port (DVI-D to HDMI cable) would support 1280x720p or 1920x1080i and maybe 1360x768p. I'm having difficulty with the Korean manual.

I'd say keep HDMI for video source and try to get VGA working. First step update the drivers for the GeForce card and then attempt monitor detection.

VGA should work fine. That's what I use on my 22" WS monitor (1650 X 1080). It also has a HDMI input that always displays WS.

Have you went into 'Control Panel>Displays>Settings>Advanced>Monitor' and unchecked 'Hide modes that this monitor cannot display'? Then go back to the 'Adapter' page there and see if a WS setting is listed in 'List All Modes'.

Most newer monitors communicate with the PC to tell it their native resolution, but otherwise you could see if there is a separate monitor driver available for your monitor. You install that in the PC. Mine identifies correctly as a 'HG216', in 'Landscape' orientation. I've never had it display 4:3 but I haven't tried that.

BTW, 1360x768 seems a bit low res for a 32" display.

Are you using the latest drivers from Nvidia ?
Yes the latest Go drivers from November.
    They are:
    Version: 179.48 BETA
    Release Date: 2009.02.11
    Operating System: Windows XP
    Language: English (U.S.)

Have you went into 'Control Panel>Displays>Settings>Advanced>Monitor' and unchecked 'Hide modes that this monitor cannot display'? Then go back to the 'Adapter' page there and see if a WS setting is listed in 'List All Modes'.
The hide box is unchecked by that entire section is completely grayed out. My TV is listed as "Default monitor"
I've tried changing it to "plug and play monitor" but its still grayed out.

BTW, 1360x768 seems a bit low res for a 32" display
Whenever I turn it on, this is the resolution its asking for.

My fault. I use my monitor for TV, instead of my TV for a monitor. I don't have a regular TV.

er so, with the section grayed out, it doesn't seem possible for me to force it to list WS resolutions.
Unless I need to change something somewhere to get that up? When I hit list all modes it only lists the 4:3 modes

I rebooted into XP. This machine has

    GeForce-9800GT (XP driver 1/14/09)

    1. Samsung computer monitor 1650x1050 (connected DVI-D)
    2. Samsung HDTV 1920x1080 (connected VGA ... alternate connection is DVI-D to HDMI).

The NVidia control panel looks like this

    "set up multiple displays"
    Note: Configured independently is checked.

    Then, "Change resolution"
Yours should top out at 1360x768 or 1366x768.

It might be because my LCD is showing up as "default monitor" and not as the model, but I can't seem to find drivers for it anywhere.
Under change resolution, it looks like this:

okay, I fixed it. I installed some 3rd party drivers. X-treme G, 190.something or other. After a restart all resolutions are available to me and I could choose the correct one. nvidia is way behind on their official drivers.

    Thanks guys!

You shouldn't feed it more than 1360x768. It will reject it. Try something lower like 1024.x768.

    Reboot the computer.

It took 1600x1200 worked okay, just stretched. I had tried lower ones too. After I put the xtreme-g third party drivers on it let me choose 1360x768. Everything lines up perfectly now. Control panel looks like this now

Thanks again. A few months ago I couldn't play GTAIV right, so I loaded up an earlier version of the xtreme G 181 something. I had to format because of some unrelated failure, but hadn't reinstalled GTAIV, so I didn't go back with the Xtreme G drivers. Seems like I should be sticking with them.

hehe I use a 56" 1080p DLP HDTV for a monitor, I only use my 19" CRT 2048x1536 for serious photo editing and gaming
