recognise whether a DVD is Shrinked or Untouched

Is there a way(maybe a program) to recognise whether a DVD is untouched or shrinked? I'm talking if you do not know what the source has been before backup

If it's more than 2 hours on a DVD 5 chances are pretty good it was shrunk. Otherwise, I don't believe there's any kind of tag that you could get that info from.

If you use ifoedit and open the video_ts.ifo file from the dvd with it, in the top window pane click on the vmgm_mat line and in the bottom window pane you will see a line at the top called "VMG indetifier", look to the right of this and you will see a name. Dvd shhink (and some other similar apps) unless changed by the user will add in their program name to this line instead.

So for example it might say VGM Identifier..........dvdshrink 2.03

other then that your other options are to find someone with the original who can tell you the discs size or if it suffers from very bad compression with a lot of block noise that is usually another tell tale sign

If the movie or etc. was only shrunk 10 or 15 % so that it would fit on a DVD-5, any change to PQ might not be apparent. It's not like that split-disk business with Fab, where the program insists on inserting that annoying graphic of their crown-wearing monkey logo. (I'd love to know how to suppress that, without resorting to PGCedit or VOBblanker.)

If it's on a SL DVDR then it has been decrypted and most likely shrunk, if it's on a DL DVDR then it has been decrypted and most likely untouched.

duh,everyone knows that :P I'm talking about cases in which you do not know what the source has been...I guess the only reliable way is to ask another guy that has got the same discs to tell you the right size...

I did have one sold to me that was on -R media - pretty good work for a copy. I sent the guy an email detailing what he'd used to create the disc, etc; including software used and all that. Got a refund.

Except for the fact that DVD-R media has a purple bottom, many here could likely produce a convincing copy of most DVDs if prompted. Why bother?

If you're only watching the thing, and it plays okay - who cares?
