I have an AVI file w/ resolution (724x432). It won't play on my DVD saying that resolution is not supported. I have a 720p Plasma TV. It won't play because my TV is it because it is only 720p and not 1080p? Or the max for any file is 720?
Thanks.

Very few DVD players will accept divx or xvid at greater than 720x576 resolution. "AVI" is non-descriptive. It is a wrapper like MKV. The codec inside is what counts. Most DVD players only accept MPeg2 in standard VOBs. Some accept divx/xvid in an avi wrapper. A few accept wmv. None that I know of accept Quicktime (any codec).Originally Posted by 3lutz3toe
All standard DVD players limit import to 720x480 or 720x576 maximum. Some will upscale to 720p, 1080i or 1080p on output.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

1080p = height 1080px, width 1440 or 1920 (or others width)
common DVD NTSC = height 480, width 720
common DVD PAL = height 576, width 720
The important part of any standards is the height
and your file is far away from 720p
