I just bought a new VIZIO VL470M. It has a USB slot on the side and a built in media player that allows you to hook up a drive and play media. I have several MKV files I would like to play but unfortunately MKV is not supported. I went to convert an MKV to an MP4 using xilisoft media converter but it was on track to run 5 hours on a 4 gig file. Unacceptable. I used XenonMKV and it ran 40 minutes on a 2 gig file (which is barely a tolerable timeframe) but the video and audio were out of synch. So thus far I have failed to convert any mkv file in a reasonable amount of time. So here is my question:
Using the table below, which file format will be the quickest conversion for an MKV? And with which piece of software would you suggest?
Here are the supported video formats for the VIZIO VL470M:
File Extensions---------- Supported Decoder
.avi ----------------------H.264/AVC AAC
.mp4--------------------- MPEG 4 ASP
.asf----------------------- WMV7 (WMV1), WMV8 (WMV2), VC-1/WMV9
.wmv---------------------WMV7 (WMV1), WMV8 (WMV2), VC-1/WMV9
.mov ---------------------H.264/AVC
.mpg ---------------------MPEG2
.mpeg--------------------MPEG2
.vob----------------------MPEG2

Just load the mkv and select the where you want the file to be put and click start.Takes me 4 minutes to get a 1.5 gb 1280x720 mkv to mp4 so if you're files are 1920x1080 and using a dual core then 40 minutes is the fastest time frame you're gonna look at cause xenonmkv doesnt re-encode the video.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
