    Hello:

I have two DVD recorders; the first I use to record TV movies (mostly) - the second is in my computer - I just updated my TV to Widescreen so I changed my Satellite receiver to 16:9 and have been recording things just fine as 16:9.

Now I want to put these movies onto DVD-Rs for safekeeping. I record them on DVD-RW and bring the DVD-RW upstairs to my computer for editing. Here's where the problem occurs - these DVDs that play 16:9 just fine downstairs play (with every player I've got on my computer) as 4:3 - everything is squashed together.

Does anyone have any idea what's happening?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello, again:

The snap I posted earlier didn't turn out correctly so I am trying a different one.

    Thanks again.

My guess is the software players are reading the VRO files instead of the IFO files, use MediaInfo in tree view to check properties.
Make sure you record in video mode not VR.

    Hello, Dude:

Yup, that found the problem. For some reason, yet to be determined, the downstairs Recorder is putting 4:3 despite the file being 16:9. But my work around involves PgcDemux, ReStream, and MuxMan.

However, there's no question that MediaInfo gave me the clue.

    Many thanks.

  5. Use IfoAR2WS to set the ar flag to 16:9. Then no matter what player you put it in, it will display right.
