I've got an HP photosmart d5160 and I'm happy with it (other than the banding that occurs with non-HP discs apparently because HP discs are a little thinner so a roller does't touch them or something like that).

My question is, does anyone else have a problem with black ink looking dark blue on TY watershield discs? I get this on DVDs (TYG03 media id). I printed the same image on a verbatim white inket printable dual-layer (MKM 001) with the same printer settings and the black was true black, a very noticeable difference. Same thing with text, and no change in the printer settings so definitely something about the discs themselves.

I use Watershield discs all the time on a Canon iP4500 printer and I've never had black ink look like anything but black.

I emailed T/Y and actually got an individually written email back within a day, pretty unusual these days. The person who responded basically said that some dyes just don't work that well with watershield; he mentioned Epson as one that apparently works well. Oh well, at least an honest answer.

    Yeah, it's your ink.

  6. I'm having the same problem with an HP Picojet 6000 printer, with official HP 57 ink. Discs are JVC Watershield BD-R. I don't know how to fix it.

If it is the exact same problem then the solution is in post #4.

  8. Oops, somehow I missed that post. I guess that's it then. I will be sticking with Falcon from now on, since their waterproof discs work don't have this problem on my HP.
