2 Good 2 be True? Amazon Memorex DVD+r DL 50pk deal

I was looking for something to spend my $5 Amazon credit towards and thought
"hmm, I need some more DL media". Put in a search and came up with this gem:
Memorex 50 pk

I thought to myself after reading the reviews...certainly this cannot be true?
Memorex actually makes GOOD DL media?

There *are* several vehemently negative reviews, though. Which I'm more inclined to believe.

i know...I just had to pinch myself and wonder if many of these people were
paid Memorex shills....
and Noah, I know what you mean...seems Verbatim is "recession proof"
in their pricing...;-P....but I went by Big Lots today, and they have
50pk spindles of Verbatim DVD-Rs ( code MCC 03RG20) for $14!
I snapped up 2, and will go back tomorrow to get a couple more...
even with tax, it's still a good deal.

but I went by Big Lots today, and they have
50pk spindles of Verbatim DVD-Rs ( code MCC 03RG20) for $14!
I snapped up 2, and will go back tomorrow to get a couple more...
even with tax, it's still a good deal.

Yup, occasionally Big Lots gets good stuff....that's not from a Hurricane/Flood/5 Alarm fire,
so I go there at least once a month.....

Lucky you, the Office Max in my town closed down in '03, and the only one left in the STATE is 100 miles from my house.

Still off to find a good deal on +R DLs...digging around Amazon, I found this:

That's pretty good, Newegg has the same (95310) for a buck more.

I use the lightscribe ones (96689), spindles of 10 for $19.99. Those really command a premium. I don't do fancy labels, I just prefer nice legible text. :P

Well, that depends on what "GOOD" means to you. If by "good" you actually mean "terrible", then yes, Memorex makes "good" media.

The WORST media I ever bought is Memorex single layer DVD (don't remember if it was +R or -R). Nothing else even comes close. A little more than 10% were coasters. I'm not saying it's the worst media on the planet, but it's the worst I ever bought. I wouldn't be interested in Memorex DL media if it was free. Not worth the trouble to burn it.

fritzi93 - Enjoy Lightscribe while you can. I'm pretty negative about the format now after having been an early supporter. Many of my Lightscribe labels are now fading and I only used Verbatim discs. I suspect that in another year some of them will be completely unreadable. They aren't all fading, but some are. I posted about this yesterday and don't feel like going into it again, but I had 3 different Lightscribe burners and every single one of them eventually stopped burning DL media correctly. Every one.

jman98, thanks for the heads-up. You may well be right.

Bearing in mind that one person's experience (my own) is not statistically significant, here's mine:

1) The first one I did was from a scan of the original disc label. Looked like crap. I converted the image to grayscale and increased the contrast in irfanView. Then "burned" label with *maximum* contrast. Still looked like crap. :P

2) I switched to text only, bold case. That's been good so far.

3) Been doing it for about two years now, and I do rather less than 100 burns, all up, a year. *SO FAR* I can't detect any fading. BTW, all of them have been Verbatims, if that makes any difference.

4) My first lightscribe burner, a Samsung, is still working fine. I also have an LG. They don't get used as hard as a lot of members here use their burners, obviously. The cost of the burners was not significantly more than non-lightscribe burners, I don't remember, maybe a buck or two. Lightscribe discs, OTOH, are pricey.

Anyway, if and when they do fade, not a big deal, so long as the data remains readable. Just my experience with lightscribe.
