  1. Hi everyone, I've got a Windows 7 PC and my Xbox 360 networked together using Windows Media Centre.

I can play AVI and other file types without issues but I would like the ability to play HD content on my TV.

I used Shark007 x64 components and Win7 codec pack to allow .MKV to be played in Windows Media Centre using a Registry change as well.

The movie plays fine in Windows Media Centre on my PC, super high quality, etc.

When I play the same movie on my TV Through the Xbox, there is a bit of a 'buffering' delay and when the movie plays, it is blocky and the quality is greatly greatly reduced.

I'm looking towards buying a Media HDD (Patriot Box office or WDTV or something similar), but it is annoying to me since my Xbox360 is basically the same thing and it should be able to do these tasks.

Does anyone know why the video plays so poorly? is it actually streaming from the computer rather than straight from the xbox?

    Thanks in advance.

I would try latest ps3 media server beta (yes it works for xbox also) and see how it works for streaming hd.

Have you tried the DivX Plus Tech Preview: MKV on Windows 7?
    http://www.divx.com/en/windows-7

It's a free MKV splitter that lets Windows 7 decode MKV files that are DivX Plus HD compatible (H.264/AAC/.mkv). It uses Microsoft's decoders via Media Foundation, and even lets you stream MKVs to the Xbox 360 without needing to install any additional software.

At the DivX Labs forums, people are sharing what filters/codecs are extending this DivX Plus solution, so maybe check there if you want to find out more:

They've also been talking about this solution at thegreenbutton.com, so checking there is a good idea, too.
