  1. I have bunch of DVD's authored with DVD Lab Pro. They all play fine, but if I open them with PgcEdit I get the followiing error message. Is this serious? How do I eliminate this problem in the future?

"There is no subpic stream for the menu domain in the VMGM_MAT table of the VMGM. However there are non-dummy PGCs in the domain. One subpic must be defined in the VMGM_MAT.

Fix the number of subpic streams in the VMGM_MAT to 1?"

    Any advice appreciated.

Is this a continuation of the other thread you started?

Subpic streams usually mean either subtitles or alternative camera angles. I've no idea what you did when authoring your DVDs, or what later changes you made with VOB Blanker (something you mentioned using in your other thread) or PgcEdit; but my guess is that it is nothing serious.

  3. This is a new topic although the question concerns the same set of DVD's The DVD's were authored with three simple menus. I am archiving these via IMG files and just want to make sure they are good quality without errors.

I think a few of the errors that ImgBurn was issuing were solved simply by cleaning the DVD's. One LG drive on a backup PC used for this type of work seems to have some read issues which go away on my PC. But the error I posted continues to pop up.

I have no subtitles or alternative camera angles. They are very straight forward. I should probably post something over at DVD Lab Pro.

    Thanks.

If you have some "auto-action" menus, such as a lead-in or a lead-out menu (which don't have any buttons), you will get this warning. I get this type of warning when I use "non-button" menus. However, my authoring program will put a default "blank" subpicture stream automatically. The blank stream doesn't show on the final product, but is there only for compliance.

When it comes to menus, "Subpic" refers to the button highlight graphics. If you have simple highlights that move around when you press the remote's cursor buttons, then that's the subpic in action (just one big one, and the player reveals rectangular sections of it according to button locations). For menus that ask the user to choose a title using just a direction (dragon's lair style) or by number (VCD style), or use fancy motion menus (ie the actual background still/vid clip changes to show choices), you may not have a subpic at all... ditto menu screens that are actually links between other "real" ones, though they should be set as "dummy" - and as SLK001 says, there should at least be a blank one. Maybe DVD Lab Pro forgot to do this
If however it plays fine in a regular DVD player and your PC software, I wouldn't worry about it. In the real world things can often be a little out of spec and still work.

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!
