For many years I've captured with Canopus connected to my vcr/dvd player using WinDV. I went away last week and turned off all the power strips. Now, that I've powered back on, nothing works. I don't know if there's a sequence to powering on, or if it's the software. WinDV gives me a black screen with a vertical red line. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Define "nothing works". Do the lights come on?
Is the ADVC switch in the correct position? You didn't state the model.

I've had this happen to me too whenever I shut down my vcr.

Anyway..thats because when you turned off the power switch, you shut down everything, including the VCR and its internal memory settings. You had one of the s-video or composite set, and now it has reverted back to one of them, default'wise.

Or, if you had front and rear connector setting in your setup, ...

    1. Just go back into setup screen and review which connection it is pointing to.
    2. In case vcr has front or rear connectors, make sure the one your device is connected to is the one its set to in the setup. On mine, its the remotes [Input] button, pressing it to reveal F1 or F2, or L1 or L2, etc.

Thanks for the responses. I checked all my connections again....and when I unplugged the firewire cable and moved it to a different input, WinDV started capturing again. All's well, and thanks again for responding to my post.
