I've done a Google search, but haven't found anything. Does anyone have a freeware tool that works for them?

    THANKS!

You might want to try Izotope RX. I'm not too sure about it's "demo/trial" limitations, but you may be able to use it in, say, Reaper (within 30 days) and be able to save??

It really depends on the source. Audio is easier to work with than video. I've been doing it for about 15 years now. It's amazing what can be done, especially if you juggle between several programs. I would definitely call some of the things I've done miracles.

    EAC has a wav editor.
    I've used it many times.

Thanks guys! Thanks AlanHK for audacity tutorial.

I'm going to try the audacity method. I have a H.264 compressed movie file with terrible audio that has a lot of static, hisses, snap, crackle, and pops. I saved the audio to a WAV file using Virtualdub. After I clean up the audio, I'll encode it back with the video.
