Just done some interesting tests with DVDFab6 and backing up Blu Rays

Used the same Blu Ray but did several tests - these are the results:

    BD9 1280 x 720 - 8500kbps - Constant Audio bitrate 1510kbps 48KHz (original quality)

    BD9 1920 x 1080 - 10.8Mbps - Variable Audio bitrate 48KHz

Question is, and I know it is very subjective, but which is the better one to use?

Do you opt for the larger resolution and slightly higher bitrate but at the cost of audio bitrate - and the possibility that the larger resolution may have more loss of detail as it is trying to push more resolution at not much of a different bitrate.

    Or

Do you opt for the smaller resolution but with constant original quality audio and let the blu ray player do the upscaling to 1920 x 1080.

    Your thoughts would be interesting?

    I doubt it.

    1280 x 720 = 921600 pixels
    1920 x 1080 = 2073600 pixels
    2073600/921600 = 2.25

Assuming the same movie and same framerate and everything else the same, you'd need 2.25 the bitrate of the 1280x720 one for the 1920x1080 one to have the same quality. You gave the 1920x1080 one about 1.27 the bitrate of the lower resolution one. Therefore it is of much lower quality. You're comparing apples to oranges here. It's not a fair fight at all.

Acutally this is the type of answer I was looking for.

It was the same movie, same framerate, same audio, same everything. The only difference was the output method in DVDFab.

Going by the information the smaller resolution could be my choice to go - especially as the audio is also of a better quality.
