I was able to convert one video I had copied from my DVR, but on the 2nd one I tried, the left side of the ffmpegX box says "unrecognized". The file is in .m2t format just like the first one that worked. Any ideas?

Try opening the file in MPEG Streamclip, then File > Convert to MPEG, to 'fix' the file and give it a regular MPEG header. MPEG Streamclip will give its output file a .mpeg suffix. Change that to .mpg for better support in ffmpegX. Now ffmpegX should understand your file better.

MPEG Streamclip says, "error: can't find the first video frame" when I try to convert it to MPEG.

OK I tried another 1 minute sample and ffmpegx recognized the file, I was able to watch it with MPlayer, but when I converted it to a .mov, Quicktime would not play the file, saying it wasn't a movie file.
