ok first a little background incase there's a workaround i don't know about. but i started off trying to put MP4 videos onto a dvd and playing them back on my xbox 360. the problem is it asks me to connect to the internet and download a patch or something, which isn't an option. so maybe there's another format that works without downloading that patch?
anyways from there i decided my best bet is to make it an actual dvd since anything will play those no questions asked. i soon found out this was going to be a very tricky task. first off i don't even know how to encode vob's besides dvd shrink. the normal program i use is avidemux. plus i had to find a way to go from mpg to dvd/vob's. does avidemux do this? cuss that would save me some time, i see a dvd option but i have to pick a container and i don't see vob's listed anywhere??? vob's are the only way to make a dvd right? seems odd anyways.
so the next problem was menu's, so i downloaded dvdstyler and dvdflick. i found out these will turn my mpg/mp4's into vobs, the only problem is i can only fit one video on there (these are 2-3 hour video's each)
dvdflick seems like it trys to do them both, but once it gets to the second video it drops down to 4fps and works at a snails pace.
i mean i even tried setting it to DL disc's and that didn't even help...i really have no clue what im doing when it comes to vob's lol so if there's an easy way of doing this that will get my disc to work on any dvd player that would be awesome oh and of course i need a menu or something on there to pick between the video's....altho my original plan was mp4's but i guess thats out of the option
thanks

Try ANOTHER dvd converter like avstodvd, the filmmachine. If they also fail it might be something wrong with the source.
Well, first VOB files are MPG files, they have just been Authored, not converted. MPG must conform to DVD specs.
The update for MP4 playback on the Xbox360 can be downloaded and burnt to a disk. MP4 must conform to fairly picky specs and may require re-encoding. No authoring necessary, a minimal selection menu comes up on the xbox.
i was kinda thinking the update is related to something else, as my xbox is updated to a fairly recent firmware due to game disk's. i may be wrong tho
so if i have a MPG that conforms to dvd spec's how do i burn it to a disk so the xbox reads it? ive been using imgburn, and when i put it in i think it just says mixed disc, and i can't start it or find it in my video library part either.
and i just looked at my video's again and it turns out they are almost 4 hours long each, bringing it to 7.9. the avstodvd managed to turn them into a dvd but it doesn't seem to encode them? as they came out at 12GB's so i through it into dvdshrink but apparently it doesn't encode low enough to do it as it warned me it would be to big. it might work for DL i havn't checked yet cuss im encoding it anyway to see what happens.
at any rate im still curious about the MPG's as that will be the easiest way for me to do this i think if its possible
ok it came out of dvdshrink at a little less than 7gb, the strange part is i put that into dvdshrink again and... it said it was to big again? thats kinda strange, as at this point it should have been able to shrink it to 4.7gb?
at anyrate i guess this will work for DL, tho i wish i could just use mpg's as im sure the quality would be better
BRAINFART WOW WOW WOW!!! lol
i just figuered out what i needed to do and nelson tried to tell me, all i need to do is convert my mpg to the size i need then convert it to vob...can't believe i spaced that out lol
thanks.
