    When encoding DVI files off of my camcorder to mpg , I set my audio to produce Dolby Digital 2 channel. What this is doing is sending all sounds to all speakers. I really just want the fronts. Is this being done by my software or my receiver?

    If the audio you produced really is plain stereo (2.0),
    then it's the OS itself that distributes the audio signal to all channels available.
    The matrix mixer of ffdshow and/or AC3Filter is a valid workaround for the problem.
