I've looked thru the forum but have only seen references to SATA.
I bought a burner on a recommendation from here a few years ago. At that time, the burners in the store were not very good at burning. I was pointed to an online store for a specific one.
I was wondering if that has changed? Have bunrers improved over the last few years? Can I just walk into any Best Buy and pick one up that will do a good job?
If so (or not), are there any recommendations for one? Or are the all about the same now?
I am not looking for lightscribe. I just want basic ripping and burning. Nothing fancy.
Thanks!

Thread: Looking to get a new IDE burner

i recommend plextor from newegg.....i do not recall the model number, but it was about $80.00 and worth every penny.
it seems that IDE are getting harder to find and i do not know if SATA can be adapted to IDE
I personally wouldn't pay $80US for a simple DVD burner. The Samsung PATA burners are popular and about $30: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151175
I just bought the exact Samsung drive redwudz links to and I bought it from Newegg. I installed it on Saturday. So far so good. No problems of any kind and been working like a champ.
You are smart to not want Lightscribe. While I was an early adopter of Lightscribe, I have since turned against it. I've had 3 different Lightscribe drives and they all wore out much sooner than they should have. Despite manufacturer claims to the contrary, I am absolutely convinced that using Lightscribe will shorten your drive's life. If I bought a burner that could do Lightscribe I would never use that feature.
Here's a $30.00 LG GH22NP20 PATA model, that I used for a replacement for my cousins pc. It's a good reader and burner.

The SAMSUNG link that redwudz provided is good too.
