I just started using 'free version' VOB2MPG to make HDD copy of movies, it seems to work but only partially. It converts to a MPEG file but only does this for the first 2/3 of the main movie. I watch the file in WMP as it works fine, just the first 2/3 of the movie. Maybe this is the deal with the free version but I don't recall seeing that in the description. I will purchase the full version if that solves the problem.
Also any thoughts on the best format to record DVD to the harddrive? I have played around with most file types and the each have their draw backs, with poor video quality or not having AC3 format, etc. Thanks for any advice.

How big is the mpg? Maybe 4gb limit if you save it on a fat32 drive.

Or use MakeMKV to make one MKV from the DVD, no conversion.
Or just make an ISO from the DVD using ImgBurn and play the ISO directly with VLC. Also no conversion.
