AVCHD Conversion question

Greetings good people. I am in need of assistance and hopefully you all can help me.

I have some footage from my Cannon HF 200.
The footage was taken on a 32 SDHC card.
I have tried handbrake, AVCHD converter and a bunch of other converters but the results are choppy video and some
of the audio on the clips are barely audible.
Whether it is windows media player of Premiere 8, footage does not look presentable. The footage is in the
AVCHD/MTS. format.


Any suggestions?

I don't have the apps in front of me, but both should have controls for "normalize audio" which should boost the volume of your audio.

I downloaded Xvidand I ran into some issues.

When I tried to convert a file, it told me that I need avisynth which I downloaded.

Now it looks like everything is up and running.


However I Am unsure what is the best course of action particularly with formats and encoding. Any suggestions?

Well I think the question to ask is what are you looking to do with the output? Archive it? Be able to watch it on a TV/Computer? If you explain a little more about what you want to do with the converted output then I'm sure people will have an easier time making suggestions as to which format/program would be best.

As bmo mentioned, you need to give us more information. Do you want to create Flash files for a web page, do you want to play the video on your DVD player, etc.

Don't be afraid to experiment. There are many profiles in Xvid4PSP available for testing.

As bmo mentioned, you need to give us more information. Do you want to create Flash files for a web page, do you want to play the video on your DVD player, etc.

My objective is to edit the footage and put it on youtube. Maybe in the near future burn it to DVD.
I would like to be able to play it on my computer on any media player or dvd player.

Older versions of Premiere can be picky about the file format they'll accept. In Xvid4PSP try DV AVI, XVID AVI, and MPEG2 outputs and see which format works best for you in Premiere. There's going to be a bit of quality loss because of the conversion of one lossly format to another. If that concerns you, you can use NeoScene to convert your AVCHD file to lossless AVI and easily edit it in Premiere. Not free, but very good and no need to use Xvid4PSP.

Just putting this out there, but what does it mean when you open a folder through Xvi and the files do not appear even though the files are there?

files not showing up can be because they are in an unsupported format. usually the file type window has a dropdown arrow you can click to change to "all files", that might get them to show up. still probably won't be usable though.
