how can i reender a video with HD quality and around 1gb 4 each hour???

hi all

i capture some videos with my sony-hdr-sr11 and LP quality

picture is very good(1920-1080) and each hour takes about 1gb and 500mb

the format on cam hard disk is MTS

i do some effects an editing and cutting on the video

the proplem is

when i reender the video what is the best setting to use to keep same quality as the original and same size

is it avi??

or mpg??

or other??

and how can i use avi with HD setting ??

and can some one help me how to use H264 setting???

sorry 4 bothering but im tierd of trying and using alot of programs.....sony vegas..ulead....magix...etc

Use mediainfo to find out exactly how your current video is compressed, and use similar settings.

The only codec that will compete with what you have is . . . . what you have - H.264 and, maybe VC-1. H,264 can be encoded into several different containers, although some have wider support than others.

However you will lose some quality by doing this, as you are compressing already lossy compressed footage with a lossy codec. This will, inevitably, have an impact. How noticeable it is will only be shown by trying.

As for size, the universal equation for digital video is

Filesize = Running Time X Bitrate

This holds true regardless of codec, resolution or video content.

Eye of beholder but my eyes wouldn't agree.

You are recording at too low a rate.

i do some effects an editing and cutting on the video

First you should have recorded at a higher rate if you intend to add effects or edit on other than I frame cuts.

Second, effects/editing will be lossy so expect a drop in quality.

Try this project again at highest recording rate FH? and then compare the end result.

eddv i don't think the op has a clue. the spec on that cam's lowest bitrate HD setting requires about 3B/hr. the only thing he could be shooting in is standard def. long play mode at the rate he claims. either way a waste of 1920x1080 or 720x480. not nearly enough bits/sec for either.

From the Sony link, there is a " LP = 22 hours and 50 min." to 60GB HDD mode at 1920x1080i or ~7Mb/s.

This is absurd for a camcorder.
