Region freeing a Sony RDR-HXD990

How do I do this? Brought in australia...found a code on here but it said things like magic and set button and I cant find a magic or set button on remote!

I ususally can do this no problem but not sure with this one...

Please help!!! I dont want ot stuff up my machone with the wrong button...

The buttons mentioned in the hack are not on your Sony remote...those buttons are on an aftermarket remote that people sometimes use to hack players. Without that special remote...you won't be able to hack your machine....especially since it is a Sony machine. Sonys are NOT known to be hack-friendly.

Ok, where and what is this remote? I am also looking at getting a panasonic for anouther room....

I need to watch my other region dvd';s as i have alot!

You'll have to buy that kind of remote online. Do a web search. I want to warn you that even if you buy the remote that there is a chance that you still won't be able to make your player region free. Manufacturers make hardware changes in models that break hacks that worked in the past. I can't give you 100% assurance that you'll definitely be able to hack this player with the remote, but you definitely won't be able to without it. It's a gamble.

I don't keep up with Panasonic and thus have no idea if they even make any models for sale in Australia that can be hacked. Do note that it's getting harder every day to find DVD players that can be made region free.

Look for One For All remotes - they have a Magic button.

Hi vickitricky, I just bought the same player thinking it was multi-region and it's not! So now I need to hack it. Did you end up being successful using the instructions on this site, with the remote you bought on eBay?
