    Hello,

I wanted to know if there are any particular settings for XViD to make it compatible with PS3, XBOX360 and other gaming consoles. They sometimes work fine, but most times they don't.

I use meGUI and I have Qpel and GMC unticked. What else needs to be set?

    Thanks!

No packed b-frames, no VBR MP3 audio.

This is why I use AutoGK for most Xvid output. It already takes all this into account.

You mean no packed bitstream? Could you please use meGUI specific options?

    Here are my settings:

The Divx Home Theater profile uses single B frames and Packed Bitstream. I suspect the PS3 and Xbox 360 supports that. Do a few quick tests and see. Try the "Xvid: 2pass HQ (Home Theater)" profile in MeGUI.

    Don't enable GMC or QPel.

The Home Theater profile has DX50 instead of XviD. What's so special in DX50 as the FourCC? Is that the element making it player compatible?

Probably not. DX50 is the fourcc for Divx 5.0. Divx 6 and 7 also use that fourcc because they are backwards compatible with Divx 5.0 decoding. XVID is the fourcc used by the Xvid encoder by default. But they are both MPEG 4 part 2 codecs. Differences between them are pretty minor. There are a few players that will accept only one or the other fourcc. You can usually use a fourcc changer to change the fourcc if that's the case.

I am not sure what the case is. I will use the Home Theater profile to see if it works.

You can force the fourcc in xvid using the supplied pulldown.
