  1. I need to convert tons of short MPG files (MPEG2 with AC3 sound from DVD camcorder) into DV AVI. Is there any free tool to do it right in "batch" mode (automatically convert all files into equivalent DV AVIs)? I tried STOIK and it just freezes

DVD2AVI is great for than but can't be used for batch conversion

Virtualdub with appropriate codecs can do it.
    Xvid4PSP has good batching capabilities.

Never tried VirtualDub batch mode because MPGs I need to convert have AC3 sound and standard (old) VdubMOD I uses can't process it I see that new versions support plugins for AC3 and MPEG2 - I'll try! Thanks!

Xvid4PSP sound nice but need MS framework 3.0 and I don't want that on my PC 8)

    UPDATE:

Just tried VirtualDub 1.9.6 with plugins32 pack for MPG and AC3 and AC3 can't be played because my files have 5.1 and plugin obviously does not support it!

What plugin do you use? AC3ACM works for me.

Mediacoder (doesn't need any Net Framework).

  6. Thanks for all replies! I finally made it work with virtualdub 1.9.6+mpeg2 plugin, VDubBatcherII and AC3Filter (after installation, Vdub plays AC3 without problem)...
