I am trying to transfer VHS/Hi8 to digital, I prefer uncompressed 10bit but the miniDV compression is said to be pretty decent.

I ran across the rather recent Matrox MX02 mini and Matrox MX02 mini max.

They offer real time HDMI monitoring along with mpeg2 or 10 bit uncompressed AVI. The MX02 mini works best with Adobe Premiere CS4. The MX02 mini max adds accelerated blue ray creation along with MPEG4 and HD.

The MX02 mini is comparable price wise to the ADVC-300 except that you have to install an add in desktop or PC card along with drivers.

There is a comparison of the MX02 mini and the Black Magic Intensity Pro on their website.

Is there any reason not to us the MX02 mini as opposed to a ADVC-300 or AJA Xena capture card? The AJA Xena card is quite a bit more expensive than any of these solutions. The ADVC-300 looks to be the easiest because it operates though firewire. The ADVD-300 is around five years old though, and, considering, would a pass though DV camcorder to firewire capture with something like a TRV-840 just as good or better?

Currently what is the best device to capture VHS/Hi8 to Digital?

Thanks in advance for your help.
