    Hello

Does anyone know if the PS3 will properly downmix a video (MP4 format) with 5.1 AAC to standard 2.0 Stereo when using the standard RCA stereo audio output jacks? That's all I got (just a standard 2 channel stereo receiver).

I would imagine that it would do the downmix properly but when it comes to the PS3 ... anything is (or maybe I should say "is not") possible. I've never seen a device with so many "odd rules" as to what it can and cannot do

From what I know it does. You could send me a sample and I could test it for you.

I know I tried aac format with converting hddvd to mkv. However since my amp is older and doesn't have aac decoding it only played stereo not surround. I believe that was aac 5.1 and did do 2.0 stereo.

Edit - as far as "properly" I don't remember if the sounds were natural or overcompensated with too much bass or whatever. That I would have to test again.

edit2 - I've never seen a device with so many "odd rules" as to what it can and cannot do

Hah the xbox 360 is that way with mp4 files Although I haven't tried em lately with the last update from a few months ago - maybe they loosened the restrictions
