H 264 conversion

i have controverted this clip 6 times already and getting (no disk- unknown disk ) in my dvd player

it has h 264 codec

I have AVIcodec that tells me what codecs are used on clips

but the video codec name is unknown

I have tried a few programs like handbreak - total video converter and few others

but it seems that I can' decode or convert this one over

simple question what is the standard resolution for dvd players 720x480?

The NTSC DVD spec calls for 720x480, 704x480, 352x480, or 352x240 MPEG 2.

Guess you couldn't find the "WHAT IS DVD" link in the top left column of this website.

NTSC (that means Canada) DVD must be 720x480 or 352x480 or in very rare circumstances (you'll have to make these yourself) 352x240. PAL DVD supports 720x576 or 352x576 or 352x288 (again, you'll have to make that last one yourself to see it).

I guess i'm doing something wrong when trying to decode or convert

i have resolution set at 720x480 and aspect ratio is set at 16:9

the original file has 768*432 (16:9), H264 = Unknown, Supported (AVIcodec)

yes i'm aware of dvd resolution but for the past few days I have gotten my self mixed up trying to get a clip to play in stand alone that has H 264 codec

So i thought the resolution is off

I'm the type of person that frustration hit's in 2 mins of trying to decode or covert

I'm confused. What exactly do you want your end-product to be? Are you trying to make a DVD (with VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders) out of a video file?

no the end-product is avi with xvid or divx

the file is already avi which has H 264 codec and won't play on stand alone

I have done this before decode and convert these files but this one is trying my Patience's

Every time I convert it then play it - I get this on dvd player (no disk - unknown disk)

even after I use AVIcodec to look at the end product

and this is my end product 23.976 fps, 720*480 (4:3), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported

so when i play it in dvd player it says (no disk or unknown disk )

this is were i'm stuck

Everybody in this thread thinks you are going from a video file to DVD. Slow down and start again. What tools have you used so far to try to go from this file to xvid/divx?

I'm far from an expert in H264/X264 but....I don't see that many of those tools even mention H264. Run that file through GSpot and see what it tells you....if you haven't already.

My personal faves as far as software go are AviDemux(ignore the name....it has very little to do with demuxing) and VirtualDub. I'm going to download a sample of H264 right now and give it a go.....I'm curious too.

I downloaded a HUGE(1280x544)H264 sample movie trailer. I opened it in AviDemux(the QT4 version but I'm sure it will work in the regular version)...ignored the warnings....resized the video down to 720x304 and converted it to Xvid with MP3 audio and it plays, looks and sounds perfect in VLC Player and Windows Media Player.

The warnings in AviDemux were alerting me to the fact that I will basically lose accurate editing capabilities....no big deal in this case.

How about loading the file in xvid4psp, selecting "AVI Hardware profile" and converting it?
The result will be a MPEG4 AVI encoded file that is compatible on most DVD players.

hech54 after u used AviDemux did u try it in a stand alone to see if it would play?

See I have done this before 4 other times but this time it's not working same settings same program

this is what I had used Xilisoft simple to use takes about 1hour to do the job.

But what I have done last night was find the missing codec that AVIcodec couldn't identify (missing codec ITU H.264 )

I also have ffdshow and haali media splitter? installed but don't know how to use them atm.

So I will try anything or any program

I won't give up this has been done before and I will do it again

My DVD player does play Xvid/Divx....and i did save the test output. Let's see if my player likes CD-RW...shall we?

I loaded the test file into my Trekstor HDD media player(which only plays Xvid/Divx with MP3 audio) and it plays perfectly. Loads fast and plays without a hitch.
