I am using Windows 7 x64 RTM. When I plug in the camcorder using firewire it recognizes the camera and installs drivers, claiming 'success'. However, it never offers to import the video. The camcorder shows up in 'devices', but it does not appear in 'autoplay' in the control panel.

I am unaware of a way to manually start the import software. I have always been under the impression that it would start automatically. On Vista x64 this was the case.

Any idea how I can get video off this camera to the hard drives?

I think lifespeed is refering to Windows AutoPlay. Unless changed, all Windows versions since XP will display a menu when a camcorder is detected. As with any AutoPlay feature, it can be permanently turned off or set to start an available application without prompting.

@lifespeed - if you want to use the built-in Windows capture, you can access it from within Windows Movie Maker though WinDV is a much more straightforward option especially if you are going to start things manually.
