Does this camera capture video in DV Type 1 or 2? Based on the specs, I am guessing Type 2. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Taken from the manual:

    Audio Recording system:
    PCM digital sound: 16 bit (48 kHz/2 ch); 12 bit (32 kHz/4 ch)

    Thanks

Camcorders don't record type 1 or type 2. They record a raw DV stream that includes both audio and video. It's the capture software that determines whether the resulting AVI file is type 1 (DV audio and video in a single stream, marked as video) or type 2 (an second copy of the audio marked as an audio stream).

I plan on using VirtualDub, and if I recall the documentation section, it only works in Type 2?

    Thanks

VirtualDub can work with type 1 but it can't access the audio in those files. It uses Windows' VFW library which requires audio be in a separate stream. Hence the type 2 DV AVI.
