I need to find out how to scramble a video (by e.g. adding visual noise), but it only has to cover part of the screen (like half of it).

I have very little experience with video editing skills, and therefore, I have no clue as to which software(s) I need to do this.

I have a 2.66 GHz iMac running on OSX 10.5.6.

Any help is more than welcome!

    Thanks in advance.

    Aymeric.

Normally this is done with Final Cut Pro but, if you can live with a black bar, this may be done in QuickTime Player Pro ($20 from Apple - it's a registration # that enables the features). You'd paste in the appropriately sized bar and then move it to cover the half you want to hide. If you save the video, the bar may be removed by someone; if you export the video, it will be flattened so the bar becomes part of the video track and then can't be removed.

are you talking Black Bars, or Video Noise, such as a snow type effect
on half the screen, or out of control horizontal or vertical lines?

if your talking the latter, then After Effects or Motion would be the way
    to go to achieve this.

    Great, thanks for the replies.

I was thinking more of a snow type effect, so I guess I'll have to resort to one of these pro editing softwares.

    Thanks again for your help!
