I was wondering if someone could explain, or point me to a guide explaining, how to create an animated menu background for use in Gui4DVDAuthor, and if the process can be done with Avidemux.

What sort of background ?
All you can really do is cut together some video in AVI Demux. If you just want a short clip of highlights running behind the menu, AVI Demux can do the job.
If you want fancier effects or Picture in Picture etc then you will probably need something more complicated, or to augment it with some avisynth scripting.Read my blog here.

That is mostly what i am after, some short clips for the background, but i'm unsure how to do it...Do I need to use a specific file extension, or can i run it from the mpeg2 that I will be using for the DVD?
