I have some AVI. divx video files that I want to edit on my MAC. What is a good video converter for MAC and what format should I convert them to?

    Thanks for your help.

MPEG Streamclip + the Perian plugin will do the job for you. MPEG Streamclip will permit cutting out unwanted footage and converting (either before or after the cutting) to another format.

Which Mac app do you want to edit with?

once done in MpegStreamclip, export the files as DV Stream files
for ingestion into Final Cut Pro, thus avoiding the constant need for
rendering the Video while in use in the timeline.
