I think you and I have IM'd about BOC once or twice so I would have been disappointed if it wasn't you first.

Getting back to the main topic....I am probably the hands-down-winner of the "traveling long distances to see a concert" category. I traveled from Pennsylvania to AUSTRALIA to see a concert (7 concerts actually....same artist BUT all from the front row in Melbourne and Sydney).
I made a vacation of my trip as well but my main reason for going in the first place was the concerts.

The best male singer on the planet...and as a bonus he is
usually backed by one of the best guitarists on the planet(Brett Garsed).
Brett never gets to show his true capabilities while he plays for this guy though.

Too learn about ... hearing damage and loud sounds.

Back in the 80s ... I worked on a ranch ... I was having to move the disk blades in to the center [for making a level].

With the 4 inch iron beam 8 feet wide ... I had to use a sledge hammer to bang the clamps toward the center.

I had to do this for both sides ... I had my truck with both doors wide open to hear my Pioneer KP500 play my music.

I would hit the iron clamps with the sledge hammer .... BANG!!!! .... the music from my stereo ... the volume dropped down and and raised up. WOW !!! .... Perfect example of our ears shutting down when hearing something loud.

I hit the iron clamp ... samething ... music drops in volume and raises back up.

What happens ... when the music is that loud ... for minutes and minutes ... and your ears have shut down to compensate.

What I experienced ... was for a brief quick quick second .... and my ears recovered.

Some people's ears dont recover .... when that loud ... 110 DB sound ... keeps on being produced ... you walk away ... DEAF

Never thought of him as a solo, but I know 'The Little River Band' stuff very well.

That's how most Americans know Farnham. If they know him
it is from his LRB days....and/or the famous "HBO Show" LRB did
with Farnham back in '83. Now Americans also know him from a movie
soundtrack last year that had "You're The Voice" on it...Farnham's biggest solo hit.
They are shocked when they find out that You're The Voice is 20 years old...if not more.

He is still definitely in my Top 10 all-time greatest guitarists. He'd be in the Top 5 if it wasn't for
    Randy Rhoads....
My list changes daily....who am I trying to kid.
If you haven't heard Double live, I think you should get it, the first live album is great too, but you probably have heard that. I liked Randy Rhodes too, but he and frank are (were) different types of players, randy was more melodic, and he could fly too, but frank can really fly like no one else for the type of music he plays.

I flew to Europe for one band's concert. I didn't bother to drive to downtown for another band's concert (which I still like but I know it sucks live).

Depends on the band, and concert.

In general I prefer small concerts in the pubs/clubs, I don't like big stadium-type venues, with few "spectacular" exceptions (i.e. NIN or Pink Floyd).

I tend to agree. I've been to a few "stadium" shows and the sound at all of them was pretty bad. I was especially disappointed at a Stones concert in the late 80's (I think). The real reason to go to that show, for me, was to hear Living Colour. They were the opening act. I understand about patching the opening act through the system customized for the headline band, but there was no excuse for what they did to those guys.

The Stones only sounded marginally better, but they did sound better. Truth be known, there's only SO much you can do to The Stones to make them sound good. Living Colour was an awesome band - supremely talented - but at that show they sounded like they were playing under water.
