Snow Leopard and Toast/MTR/MyDVDEdit/MPEGStreamclip

I just got Snow Leopard in the mail today. Before I install it, I want to make sure this update is not going to mess up my use of the programs listed in the subject line. Has anybody already switched to Snow Leopard and has the new OS negatively affected your use of these programs? Thanks.

I'm waiting for others to find the flaws.

Snow Leapard (or "Snow Job" as Leo Laporte calls it) is mostly an OS re-write with few user features. If I was a total cynic, I'd suppose this update is designed to expose application flaws and weed out (crash) dubious applications. That and line Apple's pockets with $30 for a service upgrade. I saw it in Frys for $27 but decided to wait.

We have identified minor compatibility issues between Snow Leopard and our current Toast and Popcorn products. That's the point, 10.6 is not about new end-user features but improvements behind the scenes:

"This version of Mac OS X focuses on improving performance, efficiency and reducing its overall memory footprint compared to its predecessor Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard", rather than new end-user features. This is also the first Mac OS release since the introduction of System 7.1.2 that does not support the PowerPC architecture, as Apple now intends to focus on its current line of Intel-based products."

FYI, it's not a re-write of the OS. There is no new kernel. 10.6 completes the transition to Intel based processors and drops support for PowerPC. If you are happy with 10.5, then stick until 10.7 comes out.

Christ I hung on to 7.1 until 8 was on the market and at that point I upgraded to 7.6 - processor wouldn't really run 8.

Linux (Suse, Ubuntu) has a new distribution release almost every 6 months. Doesn't mean you need to run out and get it.

I don't understand the mindset of "upgrade junkies".
I run Windows XP on most of my systems, and not one week goes by that some asshat doesn't insist that I need to "update".

On the other hand, you need to let go sometimes, too. Perfect example: IE6. Continual use of a decade old crap browser gives people like me headaches. Nothing is more obnoxious that creating a HTML compliant site, and then having to "fix it" (or rather "break it") for some broken-down outdated software to view it.

For some reason every time I try to say "Snow Leopard" it comes out "slow Leopard"! But I have noticed speed improvements for the most part, its not slow at all. I havent delved into real workflows yet. It really freaked out my trackpad on a MacBook, though.

SL isnt a "must have" upgrade until you start using software that requires 10.6 at a minimum. However, at $29, upgrading will be a no-brainer for casual computer users — none of which read this kind of forum.

Two problems I've had with Snow Leopard but only one fix:

1. Snow Leopard will not open wmv files until you have installed Flip4Mac WMV 2.3.0.11. Version Tracker has it.

2. DVDs burnt with Roxio Toast will not play the imbedded Roxio slideshow on Snow Leopard. You can open the photo folder to access the photos individually. Roxio has no answer so far. Anyone found a fix?

That should be fixed using Toast 10.0.3 to create the Photo Disc.
