What is the best tool for AVCHD framerate conversion, 60p and 30p converted to 24p?

It will look awful. If you want 24p, shoot 24p.

Vegas or Premiere will make the conversion if you must go there.

Finding a lot of good info on dvxuser.com and it is suggested to shoot other than 24p for high-motion shots and convert to 24p to avoid AVCHD "mud." They mention conversion but don't say what they're using. I don't think I'll be shooting much high-motion stuff fortunately. Thanks,

That "mud" stuff looks real horrible. It looks to be because of lousy camera encoders set to produce long GOP lengths.

Thanks for turning me on to this, I'll have to watch out if I buy a camera.

What kind of movie are you shooting? 24p requires classic film technique (e.g. heavy tripods and narrow depth of field). High motion is the opposite and is shot at 60p or 60i.

I'm shooting mostly static and low-motion scenes - my second feature. I'm considering the GH1 and its procedures.
