Can someone point me to a good video tutorial on how to use proxies on Premiere? I'm having a brain fade trying to work it out.

  2. I don't think PP has native proxy editing (you might be able to with 3rd party plugins, not sure)

If you use a same resolution proxy, you can just swap the layer out by right clicking in the clip bin and "replace footage" which will replace all instances used on your timeline

eg. you might use a lower quality 1080p mjpg "proxy" to do your edits, instead of your 1080p h.264 "original", (because with mjpg is much easier to scrub and do edits) and when done just swap it out

This wont work for 1/2 size proxies and such. After Effects does support proxies.

    thx. Bummer.
I was hoping to edit in, say, SD sizes and then render my 4K footage after editing etc.
I'd do it with EDLs but I don't think that includes filter settings (eg color correction, rotating out my bad tripod mounting etc).

You may find Cineform Neo 4K or Prospect 4K will work as a proxy or can be used as a high quality intermediate for test edits and preview releases. You can output at various resolutions including DVD, HDTV and 4kx2k for projection.

    Will this work?
-I batch downsize the source and offline edit.
-Export the project as a AAF
-Somehow modify the AAF so that it's sequence is 2K instead of SD size.
-Copy the original source over the top of the (same name) source I used in the offline edit.
In a new 2k resolution online project import the AAF and let it chug away doing the Export to Movie or Adobe Media Encoder.
    ???
    thx

Vegas Pro supports proxy editing. Still I'd recommend Cineform as an intermediate.
