    Hi there

I am new to editing in final cut pro and have a video that seams to be windscreen but the sequence timeline has changed it too a 4:3 layout. Does anyone know how to change it back? Your help would be much appreciated. One more thing: when i toggle the anamorphic setting it just squashes the video even more.

    Thanks

    Kyle

The picture you linked looks fine.

    Check your sequence settings.

The picture on the right is the final film. And it has those black borders around the footage. I have played around with the sequence settings although am unable to get rid of the black boxes.

    Thanks for your help.

Are you saying that the letterboxing I see in the Canvas window remains intact if you export the video to a QuickTime movie? You see the letterboxing then, as well?

Yes. That is exactly the problem. Any suggestions?

If the original footage appears (prior to being imported into FCP) correct (not letterboxed and in the proper proportions), then your sequence was setup as something 4:3, not 16:9.

I do not know the source of your video. When I edit footage from my SD 16:9 camcorder (which is anamorphic), I use the DV 4:3 Anamorphic setting. My footage is then imported and it stays 16:9. When I export, there's no letterboxing.

    Sue,

Can you post a link where I might download a few seconds of the video footage? Perhaps I can drop it into my FCP and see what transpires.

    Hi,

I had to upload it and it looks like this:

Once YouTube has its way with it, it's no longer something I can examine in FCP.

(I got an error from YouTube when attempting to load it.)

Try using a free service like adrive.com where you may upload it and then make the file "public" and PM (or post) the link.
