I use a hdmi cable to connect my laptop to my flat panel hdtv television. I get a picture, sound ect. fine. My problem is the picture on the flat panel doesn't cover the whole screen. It crops the picture. how do I get the playback to show on the full screen of the television?

Are you saying you can't see the edges of the desktop on the HDTV? A few percent on all four sides?

nvidia or ati or some other card? You might be able adjust the overscan/underscan in the graphics card settings, like for ati see http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/1...ancontrco5.jpg . I guess nvidia has similar settings.

And be sure to use the correct pixel mapped resolution for your tv.

Try setting the laptop to 1280x720p or 1920x1080i. If that doesn't work, try setting the laptop to the HDTV's native resolution.

If your laptop supports multiple displays use that option. That will allow it to use different resolution on each display.

Make sure you have that port set to disable overscan/underscan sometimes called pixel mode or 1:1 mode. And, like jagabo said, make sure you have the output set to the native resolution of the TV. Check your manual to be certain, post your TV make/model if you're not sure and we can help out.
    Have a good one,
