Is it possible to record in 16x9 widescreen on a Pioneer DVR-520H?

I have a 16x9 show on dvdrw. I would like to do a one touch copy to record it to hdd in the LP recording speed. But when I do it the show becomes 4:3. I even tried a higher quality recording speed like SP. Same thing. Is there a way around that? Or do I just have to deal....

My guess ? The original recording does not have the 16:9 flag set int he video data, only in the IFO files. While this is often enough for a DVD to play the video back correctly, once the mpeg video is taken out of the context of the DVD it will revert to 4:3 display. If this is the case, you can fix it by ripping the DVD to the HDD of your PC, and using DVD Patcher to patch the headers to 16:9 display, then burning a new disc.

Of course this is all guess work, given how little detail I have to work with.

Why not simply rip the DVD-RW?

Because I am trying to fit 6 43 minute 16:9 episodes on one dvd. It's easier to use the dvd recorder than encode on my computer, but each time I do it they all become, 4:3. I wanted to see if there was a way around it...

I use a digital converter box (output setting is for a 16:9 TV) connected to a DVD recorder.
    The recordings are 4:3.
Using DVD Patcher gets back the original AR.
