While this media centre is great, it does not support the AC3 or DTS HD codecs. I got a few videos on an external drive with these codecs, and they play, but there is no sound. Now, is it possible to convert these videos into using a different audio codec? It's a 720p x264 movie.

Edit: It does support AC3 after all, my bad.

Assuming the files are MKVs, you can use the PopCorn MKV AudioConverter to convert the DTS to AC3. I've used it several times to convert files for playback on the WDTV. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes, depending on your computer's specs. You can get it at:

    There's a tutorial here:

Just for the use of others who might stumble into this thread in the future...

As I write this, the Western Digital media player does not currently support the high def Dolby or DTS codecs that can be used in BluRay. The fact sheets on the player do not advertise support for these codecs. Note that while old style DTS is supported that the player provides no decode support for it and can only pass it unchanged to a receiver that is capable of decoding it.

You probably missed what jman was trying to say. Actually, It's quite clear.

    - There is no support for DTS, as there is no decoder in the device.
    - AC3 works perfectly.
    - DTS works perfectly, but only as a pass-thru to a DTS decoder (surround receiver/amp)

There is no "issue" with DTS, as it cannot play the format natively, just as my DVD player does not have an issue just because it cannot play Blu-Ray.
