My video converter (Videocharge Pro) will perform all conversions from any other format to FLV, but when it comes to the source file combination of AVI (divx) with MP3, I get an error.
Clearly I am missing a crucial codec, but I can not pinpoint which one.
I use MediaInfo to obtain source file codec details and apparently I have all codecs required to read the source file. I seem to have the right encoding codecs for my FLV because all other types of source formats convert to the same output correctly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I guess you have tried install the divx codec.
If that wont work try just convert with something else like winff, avidemux, xvid4psp and convert either to flv directly or an new avi(with for mjpeg,dv,huffyuv video and wav audio) that you can reconvert in videocharge. -
Thanks Baldrick. Yes, I have DivX Pro (paid) installed, so that's not a problem.
My only solution to this problem is by doing exactly what you suggest. I double-convert (AVI>WMV>FLV) but the process is very time consuming. This is not a once-off job. It's an ongoing process involving dozens of videos each week, which is why I am seeking a solution to this particular issue.
Do you think the problem may be Videocharge? If I was to install another program to convert directly to FLV, I would imagine encountering the same issue. I'll give it a try using one of your suggestions above and report back.Billarga Website Design - Specialists in E-Commerce, SEO and Hosting

Baldrick, Avidemux seemed the most appropriate program for my task, so I installed it. Unfortunately your tutorial is for a version prior to the current 2.5 and there appear to be many changes to the GUI.
I loaded my AVI file into the program, and it immediately informed me that I need to "Build VBR time map". Sounded necessary, so I chose 'Yes'.
So, now I am lost as to what's next. What settings do I need to convert my file to FLV?

I have chosen FLV1 from the Video ddm. Changed bitrate to 384 (same as source). GOP size is 100 by default (what's GOP?)
I have chosen MP3 from the Audio ddm. Left all config as default (CBR, 124Kbps, stereo, quality 2, etc)
I want to convert to FLV, so I have selected FLV in the Format ddm.
I click File>Save>Save Video then add the filename test.flv and click OK.
The program promptly vanishes! Nothing...not even an MS debug window asking me to report it to them.

GOP = Group Of Pictures, or the number of frames between I (or Key) frames. The longer the GOP, the better the compression level.
The current (2.5) version seems to be a bit flakey. Many are reporting issues. I would go the tools page, follow the link that says Download Old Versions, and grab one of the early 2.4 versions and try again.
Or have a look at Riva FLV EncoderRead my blog here.
