    Hi all,
I just purchased Canon HF200 and am looking for a good DVD recorder to burn DVD in SD and HD mode. I don't want to use computer and the software came with camcorder since it's way too slow. I checked the Canon DW-100 and found a lot of bad reviews and it can not record in SD mode. Any recommendation would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    CP

Set-top DVD recorders are limited to recording SD video in DVD mode. The whole point of these devices is to produce a disc that is playable in a standard DVD player. Also, except for video from HDTV channels which are downconverted internaly, they are limited to recording from line inputs that can only transmit SD video.

Recording HD video in HD using a set-top device would require a BD (blue disc) recorder, which is something we don't yet have in the US.

Sorry, at this point you need to use a computer to put HD video on a DVD. It would need to be in AVCHD format to be playable using some but not all Blu-Ray players, and the amount you could fit on each DVD would be limited. There is no HD format that is playable using a set-top DVD player or recorder.
