My old code free dvd player is broken . it cant read disc anymore. So I plan to buy a new free region dvd player. It is better to able to read some low quality cdr and dvd. Any advice for model or brand?

The Philips players are typically cheap and play about anything. For a higher quality player, I'd recommend the Oppo's.
Google is your Friend
Some Philips players sold in the USA can't be made region free any more. Be sure you can return the player if this happens to yours.

However, you'll have to buy it online and it costs $169.
Note that regular DVD players almost never can play any high definition video, which includes HD Divx and HD Xvid.
Often, the very low-end players from China (like Coby) are easily made region free (check online before buying a particular model). The only drawback is that the low build quality means that they don't have the greatest reliability or longevity.
