I was having this problem for a long time now...
I recently expanded my memory to fix this however, while rendering my computer shuts off without any warning
    Every single time

is it because I have XP? Does anyone know how to solve this problem??

Usually this indicates an issue with overheating. A few simple steps to try

    1. Take the side off the case and carefully blow any dust out. If you use a compressed air canister make sure you stop the cooling fans on the gfx card and CPU turning or you can damage them with the force.

    2. Leave the side off the case, and use a small house fan to blow cool air through the case. Run your render and see if it fails. If it does not, then you have your solution - better cooling.

    3. If the render continues to fail, check the event logs for failure messages or anything that hints at the issue.

Rendering is very CPU intense, and will usually work the CPU at close to 100% for the duration. If your cooling isn't up to scratch the system will shut itself down to avoid doing damage to components once the temperature gets to a certain level.
