I just bought a new Philips HDTV. I used hdmi/dvi to hook it up to a cable box, the picture is great. I want to hook my dvr to Panasonic dvd recorder using s-video or rca cables. When I try either one, none of the menus, guides or anything from the cable box shows on the tv screen.

When the tv is just hooked to the cable box with the hdmi, the guides are on the screen

If there is no video output at all, you may need to change the video setup of the cable box.

Try disconnecting the HDMI/DVI cable and see if that works. Some boxes don't output to all of the outputs simultaneously.
