  1. I recently found a real oddity with this, if the tbc is enabled, it plays, albeit with a slight line at the top of the picture, PAL vhs on a NTSC TV, with the tbc disabled it looks just like a typical PAL vhs on a typical NTSC TV.!

Interesting. I'll try this in a few hours, I have some PAL tapes to work on.

Okay, I just tried it --- weird. The chroma looks sorta okay. The B&W VHS comes out with a chroma-sepia look. The image is stretched vertically, bad aspect ratio. I don't need TBC. It plays worse with TBC, has that line of mess at top.

I would never convert with it -- but it can play if all you want to do is preview. This is actually good news, I can preview tapes WITHOUT having to plug up the PAL setup. I like that. Thanks for the tip.

I'd have never even tried this. Was this an accident for you?

  4. Yes , like many things, I had a tape that had a short PAL sequence at the start and then the show I wanted to convert in NTSC.

Wierd old hobby, never know what will be best as I have a collection over 25 years and about 10 different vcr's, why did I ever record anything in SLP !!
