Pioneer DV-420V

Hi people,

Bought this DVD player today, of course right away tested if it can play Divx mkv container by any chance, no it can't.

Next thing was to test HD DivX and HD wmv, didn't work. Hope because of my old TV (crt). Can anyone test HD DivX and HD wmv files on this DVD player with HD TV.

Windows Media Video (WMV) compatibility:
WMV content can be encoded by using Windows Media Encoder.
This player is compatible with WMV9 files that are encoded by using the Windows Media Encoder 9, 10, or 11 Series, with .wmv as an extension.
Compatible with size under 720x480 pixels.
Advanced Profile is not supported.
DRM-protected video files will not play in this player.

PS.

MPEG2 files from hard drive (via USB) play very smooth compare to choppy Philips USB playback.

None of this class player plays any kind of HD media. Top resolution is usually between 720x576 and 800x600.

You need to move up to the ~$200+ class with the Sima Designs 8xxx series chipset.

No but this class of player only has SD decode capability + realtime upscale chip for 720x576 to 720p/1080i/1080p.

The 410 uses a MediaTek, I'd guess the 420 uses the same.

The number of DVD players that can play anything in MKV containers is probably less than 5 and I don't think Pioneer makes any of them.
