    Hi
    I am looking for a freeware to split avi files by number of segments (ie) if I mention 5, the software should split the video file into 5 segments (of course cut each segment on key frames).

    I see Yamb has this option but it works only with mp4 mov 3gp etc and not avi.

    I currently use VirtualDub for cutting video files but here I need to manually select the segments. Is there any freeware which can do this?

    Thanks for the help.

  2. you can split by size in vdub, and just specify the size of segments. eg. if you had a 1gb file , and you split by 200mb segments, you would have 5 segments

    file=>save segmented avi

    Thank you very much. I never knew this existed in virtualdub. Thanks again.

    Just curious. What abt split by duration where if I specify 20min (assume video file 100min), i ll get 5 segments.

    Yamb has this option for mp4. Any freeware for the above thing in avi?

  4. There is an option in the dialog box to split by max #frames per segment. So if you know the fps, you can essentially do the same thing. You can use mediainfo or vdub's file information to find out the fps

    e.g. 23.976 fps footage x 60 seconds/minute x 20minutes = 28771 frames

    Don't forget to set the video & audio to "direct stream copy"
