All the video work I've done in the past (and it's been a while) has been through recording to minidv tape then capturing to DV avi, using Scenalyzer or Vegas. I need to record product evaluations at work and edit them with very quick turnaround, and I'll do this multiple times per day, so I'd like to bypass the tape and go directly to the hard drive via firewire. Is this possible?

Now the fun question...can i do this with Windows XP's Movie Maker app? If not, will a consumer app like Vegas Movie Studio or Premiere Elements handle it, or do I need something heavier?

    Thanks!

You might have a look at the Enosoft DV Processor for it's real-time processing on DV streams.
