  2. It'd be interesting to know how well that little USB capture dongle handles S-VIDEO thrown at after hardware filtering is applied. Right now if I want to restore VHS tapes, I have to run them through my hardware filters and out onto a MiniDV tape, but if this would handle the capture process and not distort the video that I'm restoring, it might be worth looking into, and it would certainly take up less space than an analog capture break-out box.

Awhile back there was a company producing USB VCRs and Turntables which is what I initially thought this was going to be. Admittedly, I'm glad it's not because a USB VCR can't hold a candle to my JVC HR-S9911U S-VHS VCR and SignVideo hardware filters, but a USB dongle might be able to make capturing VHS a little easier. In any case, this is a nice find, and I'd like to see some reviews from people who bought this program. Roxio has been pretty good with their Mac stuff in the past.
Specs: Mac Mini (Early 2006): 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo CPU, 320GB HDD, 2GB DDR2 RAM, Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics card, Matshita UJ-846 Superdrive, Mac OS X 10.5.7 and various peripherals. System runs Final Cut Express 3.5 for editing.

That's kind of what I was thinking...My current set up i paid a total of $109 for now...
A Magnavox DVD Recorder ($89.99), a Y split 6ft S-Video and Audio cable from RadioShack
with s-Video and RCA Audio at both ends ($7). With tax it cam out around $109.00,
but my DVD Recorder you can buy at Walmart now for sub $60!

I think that Roxio is creating great products, but this kind of is a good idea, I just don't think priced
right in today's market. When you weigh my setup ( VCR to DVD Recorder),
it doesn't price right: $79 vs $65 and you still have to buy the SVideo and audio cable either way!

Now if it has a built in "black box" stabilizer, then I'd say it's totally worth it.
But if not, then it's apples and oranges, but if your intent is to go to DVD,
then a recorder is the winner hands down.

But if you are wanting to post Grandma's vids on Youtube, then this would be your clear
choice, and I think REALLY, that's where their positioning this piece.
Heck, even in Snow Leopard, Apple is adding more "go to Youtube" features,
so I can see this being another piece of that puzzle.

Apparently, Chris Breen at MacWorld has tried this unit,
and he says it "forgets about Macrovision", whatever that means?
